Full Time Equipment Manager
Athletics Equipment Manager
Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Athletic Equipment Manager (AEM) is responsible for developing, planning, and managing all programs for maintaining and purchasing athletic equipment and apparel for Thayer Academy. The AEM supports the day to day operation of the athletic department’s equipment room to ensure a clean, orderly, and efficient operation by performing the essential functions of the role. The AEM issues athletic equipment and uniforms to coaches and athletes, supervises the transportation of athletic equipment to off-campus events, oversees proper setup of equipment at home games for each team, and ensures the availability of equipment and uniforms at all times.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinates athletic equipment for athletic contests and keeps accurate team records/rosters
- Recalls and accounts for all equipment and uniforms at the conclusion of each season
- Ensures that all athletic equipment in service meets safety and certification standards. This includes: inspecting all athletic equipment for its integrity; fitting athletes with equipment when custom fitting is required; making minor repairs if necessary; preparing uniforms and equipment for reconditioning as needed; arranging for repairs, making recommendations for replacements to Director of Athletics; submitting billing information
- Receives, unpacks, labels, inventories, and stores new equipment, uniforms, and field equipment
- Coordinates and oversees laundry equipment and the athletic laundry operation
- Distributes team uniforms and towels as needed for games and Athletic Training room use
- Monitors all aspects of the athletic fields and locker rooms, including lockers, showers, guest use and activity of Thayer community, visiting coaches, and officials
- Organizes and maintains equipment room(s) and all athletic storage spaces
- Sets up and removes all outdoor field equipment as required by season; makes minor repairs as needed; ascertains that all field equipment is properly secured at all times to ensure the safety of student athletes and the community in general
- Plans, in coordination with the Athletic Department, the rotation of heavy field equipment stored off-site and the set up of the same
- Stays abreast with current trends in athletic equipment, uniform sources, available products, upgrades and new technologies per AEMA and NFHS standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of three years of experience in management of athletic equipment preferably with direct knowledge of independent schools
- Experience working in a fast-paced office or school setting preferred, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and written and oral competency required
- Must have AEMA Certification (mandatory)
- Experience working with expense reports preferred
- Microsoft Office proficiency with an emphasis in Word, Excel, and new technologies per AEMA and NFHA standards
- Demonstrated ability to use good judgment to handle confidential information sensitively
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Ability to analyze and interpret correspondence, e-mail communications, professional publications, and technical manuals
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception
- Ability to stand, sit for extended periods, bending lifting (up to 50lbs) pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, stopping, use of hands and fingers to manipulate objects
- Comfortable with exposure to all kinds of weather
- Ability to use chemicals safely when performing routine tasks
- Comfortable operating in standard athletic field, gym, recreational environments
