University of Houston – Football Equipment GA & Football Equipment Intern

The University of Houston Equipment staff is seeking two hardworking, dedicated, and reliable individuals for the positions of Equipment Operations Intern and Equipment Operations Graduate Assistant. Both positions are treated equally, with the opportunity to earn a graduate degree or not.  The candidates should be highly motivated and seeking a career in equipment management. The equipment intern & GA assists the full-time equipment staff in the operations of 15 sports in 4 equipment rooms. These positions will work primarily with football during the fall and spring semesters but will handle Olympic sports responsibilities as needed. The targeted start date for these positions would be June 1, 2023.  Compensation for the Equipment Operations Intern is set at a rate of $2,000/month, while compensation for the Equipment Operations GA is set at a $1,200 monthly stipend plus graduate school tuition.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing inventory of athletic equipment and apparel
  • Leading a team of student managers
  • Assist with laundry services
  • Set up and breakdown of practice fields
  • Set up and working home football games
  • Travel to away football games
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years’ experience working in a collegiate equipment room
  • Ability to work flexible/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to interact with student athletes and athletics staff professionally
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and four years’ experience as a student manager working in a Division 1 FBS collegiate equipment room
  • Knowledge of Riddell football helmet maintenance and specifications
  • Experience with laundry systems and procedures
  • Knowledge of Nike apparel and product line
  • Knowledge of Helmet Tracker inventory software
